Nobody knows how many frozen margaritas it took the team behind Bar Ran to decide to open a taqueria in the summer of 2022, but one thing is certain: they pampered the new spot as if it was one of their carefully-crafted cocktails (powder pink tiled and limewashed walls, hand-painted letters for the signage, colorful weavings). And on the platters, tacos with varying degrees of loco-ness: pulled pork, achiote, pickled purple cabbage; grey shrimp marinated in homemade chipotle oil, chorizo, guajillo chilies, herbaceous aioli; pumpkin, peppers, feta, salsa verde, chipotle sauce… And if you want more even more reason to lick your fingers clean, there are pimientos del padrón to dip into the same chipotle sauce, sweet potato fries with Parmesan and lemon zest, bass ceviche, vegetarian quesadillas or even chorizo croquettes, before rounding off your meal with a generous portion of churros served with melted chocolate sauce… This place is regularly taken by storm and doesn’t accept reservations, but it does have a waitlist – so make sure to pop in and put your name down early in the evening! // Mireille Flocon

FEELING THIRSTY? Quite a few Belgian beers (Brasserie Surréaliste, Stroombrouwers, Lupulus, Kanaal One, etc., ranging in price from €2.90 to €6.50), plus and cocktails on tap, like the Spicy Jalapeño Mule (€13.50) that links the two establishments.
PRICE: Tacos €11-14 for two, plates €8.50 to €14.50, desserts €9.50 to €13.50.
