“Sit down and enjoy.” That’s the mantra of the (self-proclaimed) kebab master Karl Nehme, written out on all the packaging of his finger-licking sandwiches, which his upscale regulars from the 17th arrondissement come devour at Nemesis – named in reference to the owner’s last name and the Greek goddess who punishes mortals for the sin of pride, a characteristic he loathes. His creation? An exquisite Greek kebab sandwich with an eye towards Lebanon, made with homemade turkey-veal shawarma prepared fresh every morning, plus the holy trinity of lettuce, tomato and onion, and three flavorful sauces that reflect the colors of the Lebanese flag (red like the sulfurous harissa mayonnaise, green like the surprising mint-pea-spice mix, and white like the yogurt-tahini-mint combo). All wrapped up in a flatbread cooked in the saj, the famous Lebanese dome-shaped oven. It’s also worth noting they sell a vegetarian kebab that doesn’t disappoint (a man’oushe flatbread with homemade za’atar, tomato, sweet onion, sumac and fresh mint) and pastries (cookies, brownies) prepared by his grandma. // Albert Gredinbar
