Behind the facetious name of this seafood joint (decked out with ropes, old buoys, a Breton flag proudly pinned to the wall) is the discreet Romain Le Jéhan, who left his job as a Breton oyster farmer to blow a fresh sea breeze through Auvergne! Savored on the small Place du Mazet square, we had shellfish that was worth its weight in sea salt: a bowl of pink shrimp and plump whelks, palourde clams stuffed with loads of butter, briny cupped oysters from the Baie de Quiberon… Plus a lobster roll made with Breton lobster (which was unavailable the day we went, a shame!), Hénaff pâté served with good seeded bread, and a Fondant Baulois (the original chocolate and salted caramel cake) to sweeten the deal. // Gwen Jacquère
FEELING THIRSTY? : A wine list at low tide (viognier from Jaboulet or muscadet from Le Clos des Orfeuilles at €5.50 a glass), which left us opting for a good locally brewed lager from Durana (€3.50 for a half-pint).
PRICE: : Oysters and stuffed palourde clams €9.50 to €11 for six, bowls of whelks €10 and shrimp €13, lobster roll €19, Fondant Baulois €8.50.
