It’s all a crisp and a crunch at the little biscuiterie owned by biscuit maker Frédéric Dejuli, a towering figure who spent ten years running the Orsoni boutique. Displayed on the miniature counter of this cookie shop (a dusty pink and rusty red facade, an oven visible through a window, the mouth-watering scent of orange blossom), there are baskets galore filled with mountains of southern French cookies that are as tasty as they are traditional: outstanding Marseille-style navettes that are perfect dipped into coffee, Corsican canistrelli and cucciole for an afternoon snack (available in praline, chocolate and aniseed flavors for a gourmet trio), Provence-style macarons made with bitter almonds which goes splendidly with an herbal tea before bed… Unless you’d rather do a 180° and opt for an apéro snack with the savory palet shortbread biscuits stuffed with olives, Roquefort and walnuts, or Parmesan and saffron. // Folayemi Abimbola
THE HIDDEN GEM: The dried fig canistrelli (€2.50 for 100 g).
