He’s one of the pioneers of the modern bread scene! Though he may reinvent himself often, Benoît Castel never strays from his motto: masterfully prepared breads, viennoiseries and pastries – like the Pain du coin sourdough with honey and Salish salt, Granola bread, shortbread, financiers, cookies, cream puffs and stylish bûche cakes… Deeply attached to eastern Paris, the artisan pimps out his bakeries with countryside-inspired café corners and, on Rue Sorbier, a veritable “coffee shop à la française,” where you can savor leisurely breakfasts alongside beautiful épicerie products and a terrace that feels a bit like a village square. What’s more, on the weekends, we flock to Ménilmunche for his hearty brunch (all-you-can-eat, featuring all of the house products) for €35 (€15 for kids) and, for all those who won’t leave their beds, home delivery is also available. // Sofia Sétif
THE HIDDEN GEM: The Pain d’hier et de demain bread, with its low carbon footprint, whose dough is combined with unsold bread from the previous day (€11.70/kg).
