With its crimson-red facade, terrace with views of the cathedral, squishy banquette seating and blue-tiled counter, Cascara has the perfect blend for becoming the new HQ for java junkies addicted to impeccably sourced beans. Manning the French press is Rayane Hamed (ex-Ten Belles and Belleville Brûlerie in Paris), who, in the whizz of a grinder, transformed this old tapas bar into a coffee lovers’ paradise. So, what to order? Specialty potions (made with beans from Finca El Salvador, roasted by Ten Belles), matcha latte and pressed juice, plus a seasonal sandwich made on house-made bread (using flour from the Bellot Minoteries mill) and, the cherry on top, the zero-waste “zombie” cookie made with yesterday’s chocolate lava cake… devilishly good! // Line Dema
THE HIDDEN GEM: It’s written on the brick-red awning… the cascara, a coffee cherry infusion (€2.50).
