Fifty bleating goats, 40 mooing cows… It’s enough to make your ears ring! But this isn’t just any old farm: the Ferme des Fond des Communes is the favorite farm of their neighbor Alexandre Gauthier (winner of the Fooding d’honneur award in 2016), a family gem in the countryside located a few minutes outside of Montcavrel, which the Leviel family has passed down from generation to generation. These days, safeguarding the place are Gaétan and Sophie, who’ve got 60 hectares of well-maintained pasture so the animals don’t get bored (something Jacques Prévert used to worry about!). In the atypical shop area (a windowed fridge, an old-fashioned butter churner and shelves lined with farm tools), all of the house treasures are detailed on the board: incredible crème fraîche (€8 a liter), addictive goat’s milk faisselle cheeses (€5.60/kg), delicate fresh goat cheese that has been molded and aged by Sophie (€2.70)… // J.Ma.
Hidden gem: A culinary flavor bomb in the form of butter salted with Guérande sea salt (€10.80/kg).
