THE STORY: Alexandre Gauthier, the chef of the dazzling fine dining establishment La Grenouillère (also the owner of the neo-bistro Anecdote and the rotisserie Froggy’s Tavern), has opened up a bed & breakfast in his kingdom of Montreuil-sur-Mer. Inside a beautiful building from the 1800s, you’ll find an elegant cocoon with a winter garden, communal spaces (a breakfast room with a bistro feel, a cozy lounge dotted with vintage objects, a fireplace), and four “chambres de circonstance” upstairs and in the attic. The choice is yours: there’s the “Cachette” bedroom with its secret passageway for adulterous escapes, the “Couchette” with its alcove for snug evenings, the “Traversin” with its reading nook, or “Sous toit,” a more spacious bedroom for an X…XL evening! Double rooms starting at €120 a night.
TOILETRIES: Keiji.
INTERNET: Wifi (free).
BREAKFAST: Included, with tea, coffee, local milk, EmileVergeois orange juice, baguette, croissants, butter, homemade jams, fruits and farm-fresh yogurts.
MINI-BAR: No, but there’s Méo coffee and tea available in the rooms.
LITTLE LUXURY: Walking to dinner at either Froggy’s Tavern or Anecdote – unless you’ve reserved a table at La Grenouillère, located 1.5 kilometers from the village.
