A black façade, a green door and a small copper medallion…. If Lulu White is discreet on the outside, the second address from Dotan Shalev and Timothée Prangé (Little Red Door) proves more extravagant inside, with its wrought iron wall lamps, mirrored ceiling with hanging light bulbs and geometric wallpaper. There, in a Belle Epoque ambiance that’s been hit with a disco soundtrack, Matthew Long (ex-Ritz in London) offers up his famous absinthe-based cocktails — like the Parrots In Picardie (Four Roses bourbon, Saint-Reuil beer, absinthe, pineapple syrup and Coco López cream served in a glass jar, €12), and much more… Take, for example, the impressive Penny Black (Chivas, RinQuinQuin, Blanco Calle 23 tequila and Gentiane de Lure, €11). And the delicious mocktails including the Tropicalia (charred pineapple syrup, lime, beet juice, egg whites, tonic and passion fruit syrup). One regret: there was nothing to snack on. // A.B.
