A mosaic tile sign, mismatched furniture, an open kitchen, a bar where you can chew the fat… Welcome to Chaussette, which almost feels like home. Anne-Hélène Ceccato (ex-À Boire et à Manger) and Simon Maginot (ex-Canon Canon), both of whom are well-known in the industry, had the very smart idea to open a wine shop where they do tastings “en chaussette” (where the bottle is covered in a wine sleeve, aka a blind tasting) or “à découvert” (uncovered) of little-known wines (for a €9 corkage fee): a chenin / cabernet franc mix from Claire and Florent Bejon near Chinon (€18); a folle blanche / melon blend from the Pétouin et Enragé winery near Nantes (€16); or a roussanne / carignan wine from the Hérault winery Pèira Levada (€12). Over 200 labels in total, which include some classics from Calek (Ardèche), Carmarans (Aveyron), Lapalu (Beaujolais) and Laffitte (Roussillon). In short, more than you could ever need to wash down all the food available on the blackboard menu, like the hummus with preserved lemon, the watermelon, feta and basil salad, the Cantabrian sardinillas or the delicious pork terrine from the JA butcher’s shop. // Larosé
THE BULLET-PROOF BOTTLE: Ismaël 2022, a sharp yet very light Anjou grolleau from Margot Rousseau-Petit and Natalia Santo (€18).
