THE STORY: With the cicadas chirping endlessly, we thought we were in a hunter’s cabin deep in the Adirondacks! In the middle of the Alpilles natural park, at the end of a forested pathway, between eucalyptuses, olive trees and cypresses, Bruno Lafforgue, an artisan and furniture restorer, has built and fully furnished two little wooden houses with plenty of comfort, with paneled walls, old hardwood floors and bathrooms with white mosaics. The furniture was built by Bruno as well, made from recycled materials (driftwood, antlers…), and the rooms, dotted with travel souvenirs, like these “suzanin” bedspreads from Afghanistan. In the owner’s house, two bed & breakfast rooms in the same spirit—authentic and not too polished—complete the offer. The Alpilles’ very chic hot spots (Fontvieille, Saint-Rémy…) are right near by, and the Camargue is a half an hour away by car. But you can also explore the area on foot, by horseback or by mountain bike, or just laze around on the private terrace, in the shade of the big fig tree. Cabin for 4 starting at €180 a night (€980 a week), bed & breakfast rooms starting at €80 a night.

TOILETRIES: Little soaps.
INTERNET: Free (wifi).
BREAKFAST: €15 – small continental organic breakfast with hot drinks, bread and viennoiseries from the bakery, fruit juice, jams, available only on weekends.
MINI-BAR: No, but a bottle of rosé awaits you in the fridge of the cabin.
LITTLE LUXURY: An organic vegetable patch is available to you if you need to refill on herbs, tomatoes, eggplants, zucchinis and other seasonal vegetables.
