THE STORY: The former summer residence of the Uzès bishops is a chic spot to crash after dinner. If the refined décor recalls the building’s monastic roots, the eight bedrooms (some of which have their own private garden, terrace hammock) are decked out with modern comforts: iPods, extra-large beds, bathtubs, relaxation corners…. And the owners’ classy art collection gives the place an even more soulful feel (Lee Bae paintings, Pierre Soulage lithographs, photography by David Lachapelle, Denis Rouvre and Susan Derges). Double rooms at €240 a night during peak season.
TOILETRIES: Pascal Morabito shower gel, shampoo, soap and bath salts.
SPA: A hamman, jacuzzi, heated pool and massages starting at €85 for 45 minutes.
INTERNET: Wifi (free)
BREAKFAST: €17.50 with coffee or tea, viennoiseries, bread, homemade jams, fresh fruit salad, waffles or crepes or clafoutis, fromage blanc mousse, cheeses, charcuterie, Alain Milliat fruit juice.
MINI-BAR: Flat or sparkling water, soda and milk are provided free of charge. Plus, there’s a Nespresso machine and Mariage Frères tea in every room, and an honesty bar located next to the pool, with wines, beers and fruit juices.
LITTLE LUXURY: Its charming location in the 1-hectare park, with a heated pool and a garden filled with bay and cypress trees, located just a few minutes from central Uzès.
