THE STORY: With its whitewashed walls, its tiled roof and its brick lintels, you might mistake it for an old regional farm. But Anne-Marie and her husband build this big house only ten years ago. Tiling, staircases, fireplaces, old hardwood floors were patiently dug up from antique dealers and the furniture (big farm table, dresser, Gustavian chairs), from regional garage sales or Belgian design show rooms. In the vast bucolic garden with a vegetable patch and rose garden, the pond has been colonized by frogs, and a beautiful pool (heated) dug for warm days. The cherry on the cake, all of the coast’s seaside stations are less than a half an hour away by car, and we opt for Touquet (10 minutes) and for the Baie de Somme (Le Crotoy, Saint-Valéry, the ornithological reserve in the Marquenterre…). Strolls in the hilly backcountry, filled with hiking trails and trout rivers, aren’t lacking in charm either, and can even become rather intensive when we climb them on bikes loaned out by the owners. Rooms starting at €140 a night, 2 bedroom suite at €190 and rental of the small house is possible (€250 the night, €800 the week).
