THE STORY: Tucked away on the Plateau Millevaches (which literally translates as the plateau of “a thousand cows”), the aptly named Domaine des Mille Sources won’t treat you like cattle! On the contrary: this 19th-century Creusois stone estate, brilliantly renovated by Caroline Coblentz, gives you a thousand and one reasons to fall in love. The first of those reasons? You’ll be spellbound the moment you step inside, as you admire the living room with its impossibly comfortable velvet couches, the dining room with its imposing polished wood table and marble fireplace, the fully-equipped kitchen, and, best of all, the five charming suites named after flowers (Aubépine, Immortelle, Bleuet, Cosmos and Campanule), which strike a delicate balance between original features (exposed oak beams, tapestries, etc.) and the taste of the times (tiled walk-in showers, &klevering wavy mirrors). The thousand other reasons? The heated pool, the vast and verdant grounds, the pristine air, the nearby hiking trails… We’ll stop there, but there’s plenty to keep you in good spirits! Double rooms starting at €120 a night.

TOILETRIES: Organic shampoo, soap and body wash from the nearby Domaine de Bressol.
BREAKFAST: Included in the price. Fresh and local, consisting of hot drinks, bread, homemade jams, fresh fruit, small Creusois cakes and homemade crepes, farm-fresh eggs, artisan cheeses and yogurts.
LITTLE LUXURY: Daydream in the private sauna.
