THE STORY: Attennnntion! After dropping their suitcases in Brussels and Lisbon, the Nestor hotel group (led by Jean-Paul Pütz, Christophe d’Ansembourg and Nicolas de Bellefroid) had the brilliant idea to take over a listed building that used to be a military barracks in upper Ghent, to create its third Jam hotel. So, what’s through the keyhole? A clever blend of old soul and modern edge: soaring high ceilings, laid-back common areas with maximalist touches, a rooftop lap pool, not to mention a Japanese-inspired restaurant and a cocktail bar… all powered by green energy, right next to the lush Citadel Park. As for the bedrooms, which range from Extra (for two) to Mega (for six), they were all designed by Lionel Jadot and channel a vibe somewhere between raw industrial and artist’s studio. Each room even welcomes guests with a complementary chocolate on their pillow. Dismissed! Double rooms from €79 per night. · Eddie Muffin
