It’s already been five years since Solange and Serguei transformed the former elementary school in the village of Saint-Cyr-la-Rosière into a restaurant-wine shop-épicerie, and these days it’s a veritable institution for neo-countryfolk. In this unique spot (think cozy interiors in the winter months, and a beautiful terrace in the summer), everyone is friendly and the bistronomic cuisine is served on lovely ceramic plates. The night we went, we savored: an honest pork and chicken liver terrine, a deviled egg with anchovies, and a well-balanced squash ratatouille, seasoned with spicy salsa; before some plump pork loin, served over fresh haricots verts and almond purée; and for the final course, a graceful and somewhat deconstructed Paris-Brest pastry, which was better than apple-rhubarb crumble with peppery raw cream. // Marcelle Claudepierre
