After moving to Perche territory a year ago, Sarah Challe and Édouard Touchais, a young couple who recently switched careers, transformed this small village spot into an inspired organic bakery (cement tile floors, a wooden bar, a blue facade that can been spotted from far away). They serve sourdough breads cooked in the wood-fired oven on their Grand-Saint-Hilaire farm, located a few kilometers away: an excellent country loaf sold by weight, spelt wheat bread, méteil bread (a wheat and spelt wheat combo) with dried apricots and walnuts (starting at €8.20/kg)… all made with their own flour (yes, they also have a mill!) or locally-grown flour from Farine du Perche. And if you’re in the mood for some baked goods, there’s delicious flan pâtissier (€3.70), a beautiful tomato-goat cheese fougasse (€4.80) and moist carrot cake sold by weight (€4.50). // Marcelle Claudepierre
The hidden gem: The beautiful homemade cereal bar (€26/kg). Slip one into your pocket before heading out on a hike.
