With a name like Friko (which means “feast” in Breton), this place has a bright future ahead of it! Running this guinguette-inspired café-bistro is Dylan Simon (a former PE teacher turned chef) and Yohan Le Puil (who now works front of house and behind the bar, after working as a youth center leader). The duo welcomes in regulars and tourists alike year round in a fully-renovated former house decked out with a burgundy facade, big windows and wooden furniture. For us, the night we went, all of the following made its way out to our table to share: an incredibly fresh octopus salad with tomatoes, onions and peppers; lemony fish rillettes sprinkled with sesame seeds and piment d’Espelette; a haricot vert and eggplant salad with a creamy brie mousse; and classic patatas brava with a mildly spicy mayonnaise. At lunch, expect unfussy menus that aim to please: cucumber salad; pork loin and slow-cooked lemony fennel; tuna steak with broccoli purée; and even a vegetarian plate… Plus, expect a lineup of art exhibitions, concerts and fest-noz, of course! // Yanath Kandal
