End of the week got you feeling the grind? Head for Mageleinstraat and everything will be just fine! As the velvet curtains open, and chef Griet De Kesel and her husband Michiel Oyen are in place, hier is de feestje! with their well-styled brasserie dishes: Belgian-style, hand-cut steak tartare and golden fries, eel in a green herb sauce, veggie vol-au-vont… This time, we opted for: clams surf’n’turfed with ‘nduja; classic shrimp croquettes; tender beef tongue carpaccio with remoulade sauce; a gigantic portion of pork cheeks in a brilliant chocolatey brown sauce; and, since we (surprisingly) still had a little room left, a simple crème brûlée. // Romy Van Helden
FEELING THIRSTY? Grapes galore! Moscato d’Asti from Bera (€6.50 a glass), Mèdol Seleccio, a Catalan orange wine from Celler 9+ (€42 a bottle), Mo: Rot, an Austrian red from Martin Obenaus (€41), and a fine selection of Belgian beers (€3-10).
PRICE: Appetizers €12-16, starters €9-19, mains €25-29, desserts €8-13.
