A bright yellow facade with mauve lettering, timeworn wooden tables, art deco light fixtures… This is the kind of bistro we adore, especially when it’s right around the corner from our apartment. There’s no need to fuss excessively with the cuisine here, because the magnificent ogive ceiling (reminiscent of a ballroom) illuminates the cheeky dishes made by Claire Grumellon (ex-Bichettes) and Geffrey Valot (former sous-chef at Le Vaudeville). The night we went, we indulged in: beautiful deviled eggs topped with croutons and fresh chervil; a quartet of grilled sardines draped in chimichurri sauce with electric notes of lime; homemade sausage nestled among creamy mashed potato, made even better with the addition of two excellent sauces – an authentic jus de viande, plus a silky bearnaise; before a heady tarte tatin tickled by a light chantilly cream. // Gwen Jacquère
