NUMBER OF ROOMS: 40 rooms

CLOSED ANNUALLY: Open all year round

THE STORY: Adrien Gloaguen, the head of the Touriste group (the Panache, Beaurepaire and Bienvenue hotels in Paris, Chrysos in London), teamed up with the lawyer Antoine Raccat, a childhood friend, to open Les Deux Gares. The locale in question? A bourgeois building tucked away between the Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est train stations, of which they entrusted its full renovation (from the furniture design and wall colors to the logo design) to the artist and designer Luke Edward Hall. It’s an understatement to say that the Brit was utterly thrilled to style the lounge (kitsch wall paper, lively tones, a leopard print couch…), the four bedrooms (pastel tones, bayadère headboards, 1960s ceramics, art deco furniture…), not to mention the bistrot and the fitness center equipped with wooden body building machines. Rooms starting at €120 a night.

TOILETRIES: Bonne Nouvelle shampoo and body wash.

INTERNET: Wifi.

BREAKFAST: €16 with coffee or tea, bread from Thierry Breton, viennoiseries, jams, homemade granola…

LITTLE LUXURY: The panoramic views of the Gare de l’Est’s train tracks in the corner rooms on the rue d’Alsace side, especially the view from the bathtub in room 604!
