Café Mirabelle puts on a lovely show, just a stone’s throw from Cours Simon. Running things is Marion Goettlé (ex-Heimat), a young pastry chef from Strasbourg who prepares her very personal cuisine in a singular setting – exposed rafters, mustard-colored woodwork, a fireplace, a cutesy fresco… The other day at lunch, the set menu featured: traditional Bibelskäss cheese (an Alsatian fromage blanc with chives, pepper and garlic) served with sautéed potatoes, onions, lardons and Black Forest ham); then an incredible, ultra-buttery kouign-amann served with homemade apricot sorbet. It’s worth nothing that Marion also spoils her weekend customers with an impressive brunch where everything is made with love, from the pastries of the moment (praline-apricot-sesame Paris-Brests, raspberry-hazelnut-sage tartelets, puits-d’amour…) to the moist viennoiseries served fresh out of the oven. // F.V.
FEELING THIRSTY? Homemade orange blossom lemonade (€4.50) and organic wines: an Ardèche red from La Petite Selve (€5 a glass), a Muscadet from the Domaine Bonnet-Huteau (€21 a bottle), etc.
PRICE: Set menu €15.80 (lunch), brunch €29 (Saturday and Sunday), pastries and viennoiseries €2.20 to €7.50.
