As if stranded on a sandbank in Le Cotentin, La Cale is never docked on dry land! Aboard? Locals and Parisians on the prowl and with their feet (practically) in the water, all happily tasting moules-frites, oysters from Blainville or incredible legs of lamb cooked in the fireplace and served with mashed potatoes. The only hang-up: it’s hard to get a seat. But for the most patient amongst you, all’s well that ends well, especially with a teurgoule (Normandy-style rice pudding), strawberries and homemade whipped cream (when in season) or butter, sugar and Calvados crepes. // F.P.
FEELING THIRSTY? How about a toast to the incredible view of Jersey? Raise your glass of Muscadet from Philippe Guérin (€4 a glass, €18.50 a bottle) or a Terrasse-du-Larzac from Les Terres Rouges (€5, €27) high…
PRICE: Oysters €16 for a dozen, lobster €30 for 550 g (order ahead), à la carte €22-37.
