In the dreary neighborhood near the Saint-Rémoise train station, Terre de Blé has two distinct vibes: on one side, you’ll find an incredible bakery (heirloom flours, sourdough bread, a wood-fired oven), and on the other, a cheeky restaurant with old hardwood floors, ochre tones and an open kitchen that puts on a show for guests. Running things is one Henri de Pazzis, a rural entrepreneur (he’s the man behind ProNatura as well!) passionate about quality grains, who’s hired chef Mina Kandé (ex-Double Dragon) to elevate unsold produce from Alpilles Bio – the organic food shop located right across the street. The other day, we indulged in all of the following: fresh rounds of cucumber atop spelt wheat, drizzled with sweet chili sauce and breadcrumbs; a deliciously ultra-simple fried egg paired with roasted vegetables – carrots, onion, broccoli and eggplant to be precise; before sweet figs served with a scoop of buttermilk ice cream and a handful of caramelized almonds. It’s also worth noting that they serve brunch on Saturdays: boiled eggs and soldiers, sourdough bread with homemade spreads, fromage blanc, granola, etc. // Antoine Antoine

FEELING THIRSTY? Plenty to wake you up: Vietnamese coffee (€3.50), homemade juices like lemon-lemongrass or hibiscus-orange blossom (€3.50) or lager from the Brasserie des Alpilles (€6.50 for 330 ml).
PRICE: Set menu €25.50, brunch €20 (Saturday).
