Smack dab in the middle of the Little Tokyo neighborhood, Café Isaka blows a gust of cold air for all those suffering from the heat. Chilled inside their very kawaii fridge-like space (powder pink walls, a white tiled counter, a long cushioned bench), Romain Coustère and Daniela Fu, who trained respectively at Café Varenne and Folderol, whip up ice creams with Asian-inspired flavors: azuki bean, pandan, black sesame, kalamansi, Thai tea… The cherry atop this cone? The fried ice cream, a scoop of ice cream rolled in Panko breadcrumbs and dipped into hot oil, before being topped with salted caramel sauce and popcorn. It’s also worth mentioning that they serve classic iced mochi, Early Bird coffees and honey sweet drinks – like the Purple Ube coconut latte.
THE HIDDEN GEM: The decadent White Rabbit fried ice cream, a madeleine-esque Chinese sweet (€6.80).
