All barista Eugénie Sapet (ex-Coutume in Paris) had to do was cross the street with her brother Paul and fellow Les Artistes baker Martin Isidori to plant their coffee beans on the slopes of Croix-Rousse. Spread across two floors designed by architects Bloma (mosaic tiles, stainless-steel counter, dark wood paneling), the space gathers nothing less than the crème de la crème of Lyon’s roasters and tea blenders, like Mokxa, Celsius Roasters, Mill Factory and Les Thés sur Terre. Welcoming thirsty patrons (strictly laptop-free) is the aptly named dog Happy, always on standby for stray crumbs of granola, Basque cheesecake or a lunchtime tuna melt – all whipped up by chef Mathilde Mouche, who used to work at Les Artistes. · Amélie Poulet
Ordered: A hibiscus-infused cold brew made with Mokxa’s Brazilian Baixado (€5), plus a cheeky Valrhona dark chocolate and muscovado cookie (€3.90).
