Minimalist decor combining wood and linen tones, chic flower arrangements by Davide Capasso (available to buy on-site), the smell of freshly made coffee from Belga and Co. – and, of course, freshly baked bread! Created in 2019 by Paul-Antoine Bertin (Rebel, ex-Ötap) and run daily by Victoria Depré (a chef-turned-baker during lockdown), Grain has since spawned offspring, with two new outposts having opened in the space of a few months. The baby of the bunch is over in the Janson neighborhood, meanwhile the elder sibling is a stone’s throw from Flagey. Come on in and leave the hustle and bustle of Rue Lesbroussart behind you. Here, Ixelles locals are guaranteed a steady supply of sourdough bread and pastries – both sweet and savory – baked directly in the basement of the main store located on Place du Châtelain. The house’s signature products remain unchanged: ciabatta, cinnamon rolls and butter croissants whose flaky pastry is the talk of the town. And now with sit-in Sundays, you can even enjoy their goods instore. // Charline Peanut
THE HIDDEN GEM: The savory Comté and ham croissant (€3). Don’t wait until closing time – they sell like hotcakes!
