La Câlinerie

It would be hard to leave this superb cheese shop with just a single type of cheese, owned by Amandine Bourgueil, who previously spent a year working as an axe-throwing instructor (we swear, we’re not lying!), with its immaculate white walls and generously stocked fridges. On the shelves, you’ll find imported goods: hair-raising smeraldo with balsamic vinegar, mild tomme vaudoise flavored with wild garlic, loyal gouda with tomatoes and olives… and so much more! Don’t skip the house creations like this brie flavored with honey, almonds and apricots, which truly gives meaning to the name La Câlinerie (“cuddle”): so many cheesey embraces for your palate and for morale. As for tinned and canned goods, there’s Valduc beers, nut butters from La Siroperie Delvaux or even some very gourmet sauces (piment d’Espelette mustard or Calvados mustard, etc.). The best news of all? We heard through the grapevine that she’s opening up a web shop soon!

The hidden gem: The cheesemonger’s own cheese, Le Valet, a mild beauty imbued with the character of her native region (€38.90/kg).
