Carette has been delighting the people of Brabant Province with its ice cream counters for over a century, which are currently run by Claude Vanparys and Philippe Cuvelier. At their iteration of Maison Carette, you won’t find any Haribo Smurf gummy candy flavored ice cream or neon green concoctions, just classic flavors made with farm-fresh milk, like mocha, cuberdon (a cube-shaped Belgian candy), banana, rum-raisin or even sweet almond milk, plus sorbets like lemon, melon, sour cherry or watermelon for a wintertime thrill (€3 a scoop). The house also offers up some cheeky vanilla waffles (€3.50) and delicious crêpes (€3). Additional locations in Ottignies, Avenue Reine Astrid 33; Waterloo, Chaussée de Bruxelles 278; Sombreffe, Chaussée de Nivelles 12C. // Eva Nille
The hidden gem: The well-shaken almond milk and praline milkshake (€6.50).
