Tea time or coffee break? There’s no need to choose, as Onan has whatever floats your boat, any time of day. No wonder this spot from Hans Onan and Chloé Van Bael is always crowded! Apothecary cabinets, wrought iron shelving and vintage wooden chairs all contribute to the rather punchy mood that straddles modernity and tradition, and which almost makes you want to camp out there overnight… The shelves are stocked high with well-sourced beans, imported directly from producers from all around the globe (Brazil, India, El Salvador) and roasted in-house; with one wall dedicated entirely to teas – rooibos, oolong, herbal infusions – which are no less impressive. We did say there’s something for everyone… And to go with all that, the display counter boasts a line-up of muffins, cakes and pastries from Niki’s Bakery, providing solid support to the liquid goods. Last time we went, we nibbled on a gorgeous cinnamon roll while our flat white was being pulled on the Marzocco. What’s more, not only can you grab a bag of teas leaves or coffee beans in store, but they are also available to buy online. // Aline Flamme
THE HIDDEN GEM: Change it up with White Monkey, a delicious first-flush green tea (€10.50 for 50 g).
