Wine still flows freely on the natural-wine-loving island of Groix! The inn at Le Cinquante, a veritable institution established by Claire (the founder of the Salon des Vins Nat’ in Groix) and Jean-Louis Fargot (who still works in the kitchen here) 15 years ago, is now run by Quentin Mézière (ex-Le Manoir de Kerbot) and Perrine Gillio. You’ll still find roughly 300 French wines here, from freewheeling classics of the natural wine movement to highly-recommendable newcomers to the scene. Spotted on the wooden shelves: a Sancerre red from the Domaine Fouassier (€19), a grolleau by Catherine and Pierre Breton (€17), and a dry meunier by Bourgeois-Diaz (€55)… Along with organic Alsatian fruit juices from Les Vergers d’Eden. Overall, a well-stocked wine shop where you can indulge to your heart’s content! On Saturdays during the tourist season, they hold wine tastings on the terrace, and at night, they serve market cuisine. And don’t forget about the inn’s four bedrooms upstairs if you feel like spending the night. // Tosca Billaud
THE BULLET-PROOF BOTTLE: Argile, a Loire pet’ nat’ from Les Pierres Meslières (€18.50).
