Red against the world! Rebecca Moss ditched her job in finance to open this treasure trove in Lorient, the town where she grew up. Its name? Ruz – Breton for “red” or “ginger,” like the shock of hair sported by her grandfather, who lived just around the corner – a name as fiery as her passion for wine, coffee, Breton specialties and interiors. Everything here, after all, has been sourced, thrifted or spruced up by local craftspeople. Enough to make you want to put some serious mileage on the Western-style chairs and bistro tables, where by day Rebecca serves coffee from Nantes-based roaster Cime and cinnamon buns baked by her partner, with choice bottles taking over come evening. · Jeanne Plancoët
Shopping list: Yassou hot sauces (€11.50 for 100 ml) and chestnut honey from Les Abeilles du Scorff (€12.90 for 500 g), both made in Lorient.
