THE STORY: Le Café de Madrid, highly frequented around 1900, has metamorphosized into a HQ for Guéthary’s coolest people and chicest surfers. While we chat on the Eastern terrace and admire the sea from the Western side, the hotel-restaurant surfs on the success of its fifties decor, whose rooms (from €70 to €170) have a certain Basque charm, lightly redone (footed bathtubs, printed linens…) by Martine Boulard, one of the owners, who is also a textile designer.
TOILETRIES: Aesop soap, body wash, shampoo and body lotion.
INTERNET: Wifi (free).
BREAKFAST: €9.5 with a croissant, baguette, butter and jam, homemade fruit juice…
LITTLE LUXURY: A space to keep your surfboard.
