THE STORY:
Since you’ve already explored the Alps and the Pyrenees a thousand times, why not try something new? Perhaps the Auvergne region of central France? Marianne Janquart (a tourism consultant) and Romuald Balant (a stonemason) traded flat land for the rolling hills of the Haute-Loire department and recently threw open the doors of their two stone homes, named La Grange and L’Étable, which can accommodate from six to eight guests at a time, tastefully renovated for the ultimate nature retreat. The first of the two spaces is dressed in natural tones (beige, pine green, slate grey) and boasts two bedrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, a bathroom with a walk-in shower, a cozy living room perfect for lounging around the wood-burning stove and, best of all, a south-facing terrace that overlooks the surrounding chain of dormant volcanos; the second house (the larger of the two) features three classic bedrooms and a primary bedroom suite equipped with its own walk-in closet and bathroom, plus a kitchen, a wood-burning stove in the living room and a sun-drenched terrace… Mountain life sure is beautiful at Le Hameau! La Grange starts at €120 a night, L’Étable starts at €210 a night (two-night minimum stay).

TOILETRIES: Locally made Cosmétosource body wash and shampoo.
BREAKFAST: Not included, but the kitchen has everything you need to prepare a proper meal to kickstart your day (oven, stovetop, toaster, kettle, coffee maker and a Nespresso machine), with incredible views to boot!
LITTLE LUXURY: Take a hike along the trails near the house and explore the snow-covered surroundings.
