Happy as Jack, the people of Marseille have found their magic bean! Beans, a British joint from Élodie Simon and Maxime Berchet-Moguet (who used to work at the Savoy Hotel in London) is a narrow pastel-colored café, filled with UK-made knickknacks, where the couple of repatriates puts their sublime twist on the full English breakfast, prepared with local French ingredients. The morning we went, seated on the bright terrace, we filled up to our heart’s delight: an eggscellent fry up (sausages, grilled tomatoes, crispy bacon, golden hash browns and saucy homemade beans), served with bread from the Pain Pan bakery and followed by a pancake stack that felt like stepping off the Eurostar, a little dulled by the tiny halloumi add-on. Eyeballed on a nearby table, an egg bun dripping with aged cheddar that seemed old enough to order a pint at the pub. // Naomi Bordait
