To share or not to share? It’s your call at this spot from Kim Van Severen (front of house) and Younes Hammouche (in the kitchen)! At their new bistro (a few wooden tables, an open kitchen, countertop spots for a lucky few, plus a dining room decked out in red and royal blue tones), the chef has created a menu featuring half a dozen plates which rotate every week. The night we went, the dishes were really kicking off: a spoonful of tomato confit with anchovy, gobbled down in one bite; a plate of freshly sliced cecina de Leon; a homemade croquette stuffed with the same smoked beef from Madrid… All served with hunks of sourdough bread and a comforting slab of butter. As for the mains: thinly sliced scallops doused in fresh carrot juice; coarsely cut veal tartare with smoked mackerel mayo, harissa and eggplant mousse; and tender spinach and lemon zest ravioli. Simple, slick and, above all, fresh. Finish with a plate of chubby little cheeses or chocolate pudding seasoned with olive oil and fleur de sel, making for a darn good neighborhood bistro.// Kiko Zushi
