From hip-hop journalist to itinerant, pop-upping chef in California, thirty-something Yasmin Nick-Belkhodja has already lived several lives. Her latest pivot? This sunlit coffee shop with double terraces, green-and-white tiling, pale wood and trailing greenery, boldly promising only good stuff – a slogan scrawled in French across the front window. And boy, does it deliver! That spring lunchtime, we tucked into a hefty sandwich stuffed with white asparagus, parmesan, red cabbage and roasted carrots, slicked with a punchy sauce gribiche, on brioche bread from Fifu. The carnivorous option plays it more classic, layering pistachio mortadella with baby spinach, roasted hazelnuts, red cabbage and lemony labneh. Sweetness seekers are looked after too, with carrot cake, chewy cookies, tarts and cheesecake galore. Yasmin also turns out inspired salads and, from 8am, breakfasts with a globetrotting lean: maple-drenched pancakes, or fried eggs with smoky sriracha, cucumber and cheddar sauce. Pure, joyful flavor! · Will Tippin
