Well-known among fans of Paris’s Little Tokyo neighborhood in the early aughts, the sibling trio (Aki Nagasue, along with her sister Yuki and brother Takeo) who inherited Miyoshi – originally opened in 1988 near the Paris Opéra – decided to relocate to Crac’h in 2014, transforming their parents’ big house on the road between Auray and the glamorous coast. Their goal? To turn it into an off-the-radar countryside izakaya, proudly bearing the name of their grandmother, Miyoshi! The night we went, all of the following graced our table: fresh tofu seasoned with ginger, soy sauce, steamed celery leaves and sesame oil; ginger chicken, langoustines and thinly-sliced squid, all floating in dashi broth; slightly too salty grilled salmon; Miyoshi-style beef, aka a beautiful marbled cut of beef served in slices with a miso-butter sauce, plus a side of miso soup and rice; followed by a scoop of azuki bean ice cream for dessert, while dreaming about coming back next winter for the special Japanese-style oyster menu. // Suzy Dalleuze
