Don’t mind the meat hooks on the tiled walls, because despite being housed inside a former butcher’s shop, Daily Syrien’s third location is 100% vegetarian! On its five tables that are always full, all kinds of well-made mezze file out at both lunch and dinner: deliciously sweet feta cigars, extremely fresh labneh, lentil purée, za’atar-sesame-thyme galettes with hummus for dipping, delicious foul – a warm broad bean and chickpea salad… For us, the day we went for lunch: a generous plate of falafel, eggplant purée, tabbouleh, moussaka and cheese turnovers, served with flavorful pickled turnips. Then, tested and approved from a myriad of desserts (pistachio-cashew baklava, rolled semolina dough with mascarpone…), there was an authentic mouhalabieh – a delicate Lebanese orange blossom flan sprinkled with pistachios. // O.D.
