With its white facade and Mykonos-blue trim, Yassou has planted a little Greek flag in Brussels’ suit-and-tie district. Buddies Nicolas Jamar (half Greek and ex-Café des Minimes) and Grégoire Godin (in the kitchen) have built a place around simplicity, hospitality and the sort of cooking yiayia (Greek for grandmother) would approve of. Grab a seat at the big, central wooden table, tear into a pita and pour yourself a retsina: a trio of dips (tzatziki, whipped feta with mint and pistachio, red-pepper ktipiti); eggplant stuffed with feta and peppers, served with crispy potatoes and a green salad; keftedakia, a beef meatball with a generous dollop of tzatziki; and finally, a proper syrup-soaked portokalopita – a classic orange cake made exactly as the Greek grandmothers intended, best chased with a compulsory freddo espresso. All while browsing the bookshelves and listening to vinyl. · Gwen Dalle

Feeling thirsty? The Freddo Expresso (€3.80) is non-negotiable, whatever the time of day, made on the same machine you’d find in Greece and with beans from Torrefactory in Mont-Saint-Guibert. For an apéro, there’s ouzo from the Cyclades (€6 a glass), Aoton Winery’s Mesogée retsina (€8.20) or a Mastiha Spritz (€11).

Price: Starters €10-14, mains €16-18, desserts €5.50-6.50 (lunch), sharing plates €10-14 (dinner).
