The name says it all! Pépie is French slang for an unquenchable thirst – and at Julien Malaussene’s place, you’ll never be left high and dry! Trained at the Université du Vin, the well-traveled Avignon native has finally unpacked his bottles on Rue de Lodi, opening this no-frills wine shop with a taste for discovery, dedicated to living wines just minutes from Cours Julien. Small in size but big on substance, the shelves are packed tight with bottles from uncompromising winemakers unearthed in every corner of France: Didier and Jules Grappe in the Jura, Mathilde and Florian Beck-Hartweg in Alsace, Lucas Berthuit in Languedoc… More than a hundred labels in all, alongside a handful of craft beers, ciders and, above all, bottles with stories worth uncorking. One visit and you’ll never have Pépie again! · Jacques Tourteau
Shopping list: Peyrol, a grenache blanc from Clémentine and Joran Gualchierotti at Domaine Astrado in Pertuis (€22), worth the trip all by itself.
