THE STORY: Whitewashed walls, scalloped tiles, azure blue parasols, a pool overlooking the ocean… For their first spot on the Île d’Yeu, Guillaume Foucher and Frédéric Biousse, the happy owners of a handful of hotels across France (Domaine de Fontenille, Domaine de Primard, Les Hortensias du Lac…), have taken over Le Caillou Blanc, renaming it Les Hautes Mers for the occasion. It’s like a gigantic vacation home where you can laze about while watching the seagulls, equipped with seventeen island style bedrooms (various shades of blue, blonde hardwood floors, model boats), including the radiant Junior Suite n°16 – where you can get your sea legs on either the private terrace or behind the bay window. A well preserved spot, where you can take the time to contemplate your surroundings, go kayaking, wander around… and soak up the island’s end-of-the-world feel, without sacrificing comfort. Double rooms starting at €200 a night.

BREAKFAST: €26 (€13 for kids), with coffee or tea, fruit juice, breads, viennoiseries, homemade cakes, island specialties (betchets, foutimassons), eggs, salmon, charcuterie…
TOILETRIES: Natural products from the very chic Swedish brand L:a Bruket.
LITTLE LUXURY: Accessing the Ker Châlon beach directly from the hotel’s garden…
