Barkboy (Brussels)

Who let the dogs out? Who, who, who? Perhaps it was Reda Vranken, with his brand-new, very American-feeling Barkboy. There, you’ll discover a long marble bar with emerald green tones, raw wood barstools, whitewashed brick walls and hip-hop playing loudly in the background. It’s chic, it’s cutting-edge, it’s all about café, served in transparent cans with a bulldog logo printed on them. During the week, don’t miss the must-try twisted buns (cardamon, cinnamon or chocolate) baked in-house, and on the weekends, there are also chunky white chocolate and macadamia nut cookies, or the very New York banana pudding (vanilla whipped cream, cookie crust, banana) served in an ice cream cup. One complaint? The abundance of plastic, which we could have done without… // Timotea Persil

FEELING THIRSTY? On the menu, all the usual caffeinated beverages, like the flat white or the long black (€3.50 to €4.75), share the spotlight with drinks like cascara tea (made from coffee cherry, €4.75), an improbable espresso tonic frappé (€5) or an orange espresso (€5.25), which would make for a beautiful Insta story.

PRICE: Pastries €3 to €5.50.
