Don’t wait a second longer to sink your teeth into these hearty sandwiches at the second coffee shop location from Farah Laacher (ex-Fontaine de Belleville) and Thomas Lehoux (the co-founder of Ten Belles and Belleville Brûlerie), right in the heart of the Latin Quarter, surrounded by crêperies, gyro joints and student pubs. Behind the rather wood-cabin-inspired facade, you’ll find a narrow space with unfinished walls, a counter that gives way to the open kitchen and Formica tables, filled with a lovely mix of tourists, students and regulars who come for a Yankee-style breakfast (peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, egg buns, etc.) or lunch: in addition to the dish of the day (when we went it was beef tataki with soba noodles, white miso, spaghetti squash and toasted buckwheat), there are outstanding sandwiches including the Schnitzel with juicy, crispy fried chicken and melted cheddar under a heap of shaved green cabbage and iceberg lettuce, all squeezed between a soft bun with sauce gribiche, plus pickled zucchini. What about dessert? There’s a comforting chocolate cake sprinkled with seeds and fleur de sel. // Madeleine Proust
