The idea of waking up with a quality coffee has finally trickled down to Brittany’s capital city! The unfiltered Gang is the one responsible, dealing out the good Marseille dope from Deep roasters in broad daylight. At the head of this mafia organization? Romain Herbreteau, a former waiter at the nearby L’Ambassade, who has transformed this former catholic bookshop (the walls are of course unfinished and lined with banquettes, and there’s wooden Scandi-style furniture). He recruited the New Zealand-born Andrew Bartlett and the barista Agathe Louis to send out comforting brunch-style cuisine all week long. For us, the day we went for lunch: an impeccable Reuben made on toasted rye and filled with Parisian pastrami from Will’s Deli, aged cheddar from Local à Fromages in Novoitou and pickled white cabbage, which brightened up to the rather bland Bun César sandwich, filled with grilled chicken, sauce gribiche with Parmesan, sweet chili jam, sliced tomato and iceberg lettuce. On the weekends, expect pancakes, shakshouka, homemade filet-o-fish and lamb tacos in addition to all the rest, along with some inevitable sweets – a rustic fig tart, hazelnut-blueberry marble cake, chocolate and buckwheat cookies… // Rosa Poulsard

FEELING THIRSTY? Perfect coffees – espresso, drip coffee, flat white or cold brew (made with bitter orange rind) obviously (€1.80 to €4), Kodama teas (€3.50) and freshly made celery, spinach, green pepper, cucumber and ginger juice (€4) to cure your hangovers.
PRICE: Breakfast €5-6, lunch €8-9, brunch €12-14, pastries €3 to €4.50.
