Finally, Queerland is back open for business! Picture the scene: a sprawling sun-drenched terrace, shades on, catching up on the latest gossip with friends while sipping on a Pimm’s – or the current it-drink, sparkling water with cucumber cordial – to be ordered at the bar while checking out the talent in the room. So, who’s to thank for this fabulous revival? Ben, Teiva, Steve, Isabel and Aymeric, all artists, DJs or designers, who brought this beloved twenty-something institution back to life, slap bang in the middle of Brussels, less than two years after its closure. So, what’s the best thing about Le Fontainas? The unbeatable lunch menu. The day we went, it featured: a plate of creamy oeuf mayo (wiped clean with some good sourdough bread), topped with tarragon and pickled mustard seeds; a hearty freekeh salad loaded with grilled carrots, zucchini and eggplant, plump green olives and a lemon cumin condiment; before ending with a slice of Sardinian burnt orange cake, that’ll transport you straight to the shores of the mare nostrum. · Cléo Popina
