Half-hidden behind gingham curtains, a delightful slice of England awaits in Saint-Gilles neighborhood. Inside this spot tiled head to toe in white (from walls to counter), you’ll find the masterminds behind Rascal’s Café, Emma Rougier and her brother Mathieu Lobbé, who, as fans of all things British, have recreated authentic greasy-spoon vibes with comforting all-day breakfasts. Pray tell: come for the ultimate fry-up packed with baked beans in tomato sauce, scrambled eggs, grilled sausages, crispy bacon and fried mushrooms, to splatter contentedly with ketchup or mustard (or a splash of locally made Swet hot sauce, if that’s more your thing), all mopped up with gloriously buttery toast. Other options include ultra-crispy fish and chips with a dollop of classic tartar sauce, a scotch egg or beans on sourdough toast topped with melted grated cheddar. It’s quite a menu, which makes no secret of its love for hearty (good) fat. Also worth noting are the Thursday bingo nights, where, if luck is on your side, you’ll leave hands full with sauces, jams or even a free lunch ticket. · Jeanne Jaco
