La Mezcaleria (Paris)

All of a sudden, white tiles transform into midnight blue carpeting, the stainless steel of the workspace give way to velvet… Welcome to the speakeasy at the very chic 1K Hotel, which you access via the kitchen… It’s decorated in a very Día de los Muertos manner (miniature skeletons, multicolored ribbons, colorful rugs), and La Mezcaleria is the newest kingdom of Ben Tyler (ex-Bohomie and Little Red Door), who now operates under an XXL crucifix. On his menu? Fifteen cunning creations like the Baobab Swizzle, with its smoky sweetness (mezcal, Talisker whiskey, turmeric, quinoa milk and bitters, €14) or the sparkling No Secret For Victoria – mezcal, kombucha, hibiscus, lemon, Champagne and dried banana(€14). Otherwise, to avoid sombrero aches, opt for the Aqua de Jamaica, a delicate mixture made from cold-brewed hibiscus flowers and blue agave syrup (€5). // A.B.
