THE STORY: High up on the Fourvière hill, the former Couvent de la Visitation is now a hotel. At the helm? Jean-Luc Mathias, already the owner of the Collège Hôtel, has skillfully renovated the space: there’s a majestic ambiance in the former chapel that has been transformed into the lobby; a more rustic feel in the 750 m2 garden where you can play a round of boule lyonnaise; and a Japanese monastery atmosphere in the bedrooms (the smallest ones are still named after the former cells…), furnished with antique pieces or decorated by Stella Works. Double rooms starting at €140 a night.
TOILETRIES: Vinésime shampoo and shower gel.
INTERNET: Wifi (free).
BREAKFAST: €18 for the “Lyonnaise” breakfast with coffee, tea, a selection of breads, biscotti, marmalade, mini viennoiseries, yogurts, fruit salad, freshly squeezed orange juice, eggs, charcuteries, cereals.
MINI-BAR: No, but free bottles of mineral and sparkling water are available in the rooms.
LITTLE LUXURY: Fourvière Les Bains, the hotel spa, which has a 25-meter-long heated outdoor pool.
