THE STORY: This is perhaps the best kept secret in the Landes forest: an incredibly elegant 18th-century mansion, turned into a B&B run by former adventurers Anaïs Fillau and Bertrand Decoux. Let us take you on a little tour… Once you’ve stepped through the majestic entryway, head to the lounge with its beautiful crown molding and woodwork, the massive dining room and the kitchen that is obviously fully equipped, before heading upstairs where two bedrooms welcome you in with open duvets: La Sereine, all dressed in white, and La Prodigieuse, with chestnut tones, each of which is made even more stunning by the local pine parquet flooring and the Arabescato Italian marble bathrooms. Hoping for something bigger? Head to the two suites: the sand-toned La Clairvoyante, which welcomes in the day with its skylight, and – even bigger still – La Divine, with shades of ecru and taupe, whose glass partition looks through to the waxed concrete bathroom. Perfect for starting your day on the right foot, before going for a dip in the briny ocean waves, wandering through the immense surrounding forest, or even heading underground to check out the house’s wine cellar. In short, the chicest of retreats awaits. Double rooms starting at €250 a night (two-night minimum stay).

TOILETRIES: Natural and artisan soap, body wash and shampoo from Bordeaux brand Soin de Soi.
BREAKFAST: Included, featuring coffee roasted in Bordeaux by Oven Heaven, bread and viennoiseries from the local baker, artisan La Landaise jams, muesli and fresh fruit.
LITTLE LUXURY: With its panoramic views of the forest, let time slip away on the rooftop terrace as you take your breakfast there or at apéro hour.
